Molecules or lattices which have built up into a three dimensional repeat pattern. The solid substance assumes an individual and geometric form with plane faces. Most pure materials can be found in crystalline form, the larger crystals often used as gemstones. Crystals can be very large or micro-crystalline and invisible to the naked eye, as in clay or flint.
